Yossilinks is having a Bar Mitzvah!

By Debbie Havusha

For thirteen years, Yossilinks has been providing a networking resource for information and services for the members of Vancouver’s Jewish community and beyond. (www.yossilinks.com)

This is a Bar Mitzvah year. What makes a good bar mitzvah event? Good food, good music and a community that comes together to celebrate a meaningful milestone. Yossi Havusha, the founder of Yossilinks Media Inc. has served the Greater Vancouver Jewish community with good deeds of plenty and it is now time to celebrate!

The community is invited to two summer barbecues. On Sunday July 23rd Chabad Richmond and Yossilinks will come together, and on Sunday, August 13th, Kollel and Yossilinks will again come together.

In between these two summer gatherings, Eternal Theatre Collective (www.eternaltheatre.com) presents ‘13’ The Musical. A delightful cast of 14 youth ranging in ages 13-20 will perform at the Revue Stage at Granville Island from August 9-12. The music and lyrics are written by Jason Robert Brown and the book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn. The play is about Evan Goldman and the difficult move he has to endure when his parents divorce just before his bar mitzvah. Evan has to leave his beloved New York City and move to a small catholic town in Indiana. He befriends Archie who has muscular dystrophy.

The teenager is wrought with peer pressure and is tested on how to rise above the ‘cool’ kids. This musical is fun for the whole family. It will have you smiling and reminiscing about the trials and tribulations of growing up. This theatre company is comprised of youth who are united in an effort to cultivate performance and learning opportunities for emerging artists. Their mandate is to provide opportunities for youth to engage in the performing arts and connect with other youth who feel similarly passionate about performing arts. They intend to not only allow opportunities for youth already engaged in the arts to express and share their work, but also to increase youth awareness of the performing arts in our community.

In increasing awareness, Hannah Madden-Krasnick in charge of the play’s publicity reached out to Yossilinks to help promote their play and their youth driven mission. After meeting with Hannah and the play’s director Laura Reynolds and founder of Eternal Theatre Collective, the match was made! Celebrating Yossilinks’ Bar Mitzvah year along with showcasing ‘13’ The Musical, is a medley alliance of many mensches!

Mazel Tov to the Bar Mitzvah boys….Yossi and Evan!
