Tu B’Shvat – JNF’s Special Holiday

Tu B’Shvat is the Jewish National Fund’s special holiday all over the world. Every year the organization celebrates the holiday with family events in schools and in community centres. This year the JNF’s education emissary for Canada, Noa Friedman, will join the holiday school celebrations and the special events that are planned together with the JCC and with Rabbi Levi’s The BAYIT in Richmond.

These events are just the appetizers. For the main course the JNF is planning a Tu B’Shvat fundraising campaign. A Telethon will take place on Sunday, February 19 and 26. You are all welcome to join other volunteers that would answer calls for donations that will be allocated for planting trees along the border with Gaza in the southern part of Israel. This year the JNF’s project is a “Security Tree Planting” where planted trees will function as a buffer between the Country’s residents and Hamas terrorists. In general, planting trees in Israel is very important, especially due to the last unfortunate wave of fires.

Ilan Pilo, Vancouver JNF emissary says “Tu B’Shvat campaign this year is exciting and extremely important. It combines the core values of the JNF and the real need for protecting the lives of our brothers and sisters in Israel. JNF-Pacific Region is committed to the community and holds various events throughout the year designed to strengthen the bond between the community in Vancouver to Israel.” Pilo also expressed hope that the campaign this year will be successful as it was in previous years. “It will demonstrate the special relationship between the community of Vancouver, the JNF and Israel “.
