Be Happy! – Debbie Havusha’s Blog

Happiness prevails during the Hebrew month of Adar (equivalent to our Gregorian month of March). During Purim festivities our masks and costumes help us party and laugh. However, when the parties are over we are commanded to continue to be happy and rejoice till the end of the month.

Rick Hanson Ph.D., author of acclaimed book; ‘Hardwiring Happiness’ reveals to us how we can summon our brains to feel happy. Subsequently our neurons will eventually wire and fire together to listen and obey.

We must be reminded that there are ample opportunities for our neurons to rejoice. By the way, March is when Hansen’s book is coming out in a happy paper back.

Although Purim parties are now over, and masks put away, we are decreed to remain happy till the end of the month. May I suggest you get Hanson’s happy inducing book and check out the joyful photos from Yossilinks Purim Party 2015. It will remind your neurons to be happy this month and the next!!

  1. Love what Shana has shared about the Gross National Happiness and spreading our happiness into 9 criteria of being. Thanks Shana:)

  2. What is happiness? Survey crowd of people and get a crowd of different responses, especially in our competitive, consumerist society. However, ask the founders of the GNH (Gross National Happiness) movement and they will give you nine criteria of happiness: 1) cultural vitality; 2)sustainable development; 3) natural environment; 4) good governance; 5)spiritual health; 6) physical & mental health; 7) community vitality; 8) education; and 9) living standards. Based on Buddhist spiritual values that material and spiritual development occur side-by-side, happiness can be measured and thus defined using these criteria. The higher on the scale of 1-9, the happier we are. Quoting the former Fourth Dragon King of Bhutan, “Gross National Happiness (GNH) is more important than Gross National Product (GNP).” So, we can rejoice in creating a better world of happiness.
