He’s a clown – ‘Shay Rokach Penn’ – Debbie Havusha’s Blog

IMG_5379Shay grew up in Ashkelon in Israel.   Since he was a very young boy he has enjoyed entertaining others.  Shay wanted to be an actor but says that there weren’t many opportunities for acting in Ashkelon. When he was 11 years old he and a friend would take masks of smurfs to a neighbouring kindergarten and during their school lunch hour would entertain the kids.  At the age of 15, Shay was presented with an ‘Award of Distinction’ for his outstanding volunteer service working with adults from ‘AKIM’, an Israeli organization supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.  Shay’s love of making people laugh motivated him to start his own clown company.  His car in Israel was painted in many bright colours.  Shay’s eye for colour and passion for design had him working from a young age for a local paper in Ashkelon. During and after Shay’s army service he worked in graphic design.

Shay moved to Richmond in September 2013 with his husband Yoav and their adorable 3 year old daughter Libby. Yoav works for a bio-medical company in Richmond.  Shay works as a freelance Graphic Designer for an Israeli magazine in Los Angeles and in Gush Etzion, Israel.  And in November 2014, Shay started to work for Yossilinks of Greater Vancouver!

When I asked Shay what he likes about living here.  Shay told me that he likes to complain and that here, he doesn’t have enough to complain about!?
