Amazing Eastern Europe with Naomi and Shmuel Yahav

Amazing Eastern Europe with Naomi and Shmuel Yahav

Originally from Winnipeg with family roots in Romania, Naomi has travelled extensively throughout the region. She experienced her first AMA cruise on the Danube and was inspired to coordinate this amazing journey on the Amacerto. “When I took my first AMA Waterways Cruise in 2010, it was the most incredible experience. I dreamed of the opportunity to share this experience with others and incorporate Klezmer and Jewish themed tours.“

Shmuel was raised in Romania and after spending several years in Israel immigrated to Canada.  He is a historian, well-versed in world politics and will keep you enchanted with his story telling, ensuring that you will love spending time with him as you take this journey through Eastern Europe.

Amacerto, inspired by classic ocean yachts, is a 162-passenger ship that offers a distinctive river cruise experience. On an AMA Waterways river cruise, you don’t just pass through a destination, – you experience it.

The Food

As a member of “La Chaine ds Rotisseurs”, an exclusive international culinary society, you’ll be treated to exquisite, locally inspired cuisine always paired with unlimited wine, as well as beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner.

The Ports

You’ll be free to choose from one of several options, all of which are included in your cruise fare, including an unforgettable exploration of the major sights led by a local, English speaking guide, well versed in the history and culture of the area. As a special feature, we have arranged for Jewish themed tours as well as Klezmer entertainment for your listening pleasure.

The Itinerary

Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, all very diverse in culture, culinary and history, plus a full day of cruising the Iron Gates, one of Europe’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, showcasing the Danube as it winds through a series of magnificent gorges between the Carpathian and the Balkan mountains. The banks of the river dazzle with sheer-faced rocks that stretch high overhead along this natural border between Serbia and Romania.

To further enhance your journey, spend some time exploring Romania and the castles and medieval towns in Transylvania. The country that gave us Dracula has no shortage of incredible castles sitting precariously on rocky hilltops. Visit Bucharest, Romania’s capital and one of the largest cities in Eastern Europe with two million residents. It offers a contrast between the trendy sophisticated city while maintaining the historical atmosphere of the past.

Romania’s Jewish Heritage and Roots

There are nearly 100 well-maintained synagogues with half still being used for worship,  and more than 800 cemeteries scattered throughout the country.

You’ll finally disembark in Budapest, the centre of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a fairy-tale city.

Experience culture, amazing spas, great food and music. You can extend your journey with an optional tour of Budapest and go on to Vienna if you choose. Imagine a night of Mozart and Strauss!
